Regular visitors to this site will notice that I’ve substantially changed the look and feel here. As my wife says, anything with a dark burgundy background looks dated and I definitely felt that way about the old theme I was using.
The changes are more than just cosmetic. I’m going charting a different course: one that veers away from purely IT topics. There will, of course, still be some in-depth articles on technology. But I’m shifting the focus to using the other side of my brain — the creative side.
Over the next few months I hope to start publishing my own podcast. Without giving away too many details, it will be technology-related, but not in the way you might think. My goal in becoming a podcaster is to learn how to tell a good story. To the podcast, I hope to apply the same level of diligence and good editing that I’ve tried to practice here on the journal, but in a different format. It’s that sort of quality that I hope will set my podcast apart from others.
Because of the time required to produce each episode, and the fact that I have a full-time job, you can expect to see at most one episode per month. I’ll be a merciless editor and may end up abandoning entire stories or themes if they don’t meet standards. But you can be rest assured that each episode will be compelling, well-written and researched, and worth your time.
I realize I’m setting a high bar for something I haven’t even started. But this exercise has been over six months in the planning. By announcing it publicly, it means I can’t back down now — I have to get the equipment, find and interview the subjects, and execute. Wish me luck!
I'll be very interested in following along on your podcasting journey! Great to meet you at PodCamp Toronto! I didn't make the Sunday sessions, but I'll be watching the archived streams.
